Abstract:

Health systems organized in networks of health care and coordinated by the Primary Health Care can contribute to improvement in clinical quality, positive impact on health outcomes and user satisfaction (by improving access and solving) and reduce the costs of local health systems. Thus, we proposed to analyze the scientific production about the evidence, potential, challenges and prospects of Primary Health Care such as coordinator of health care network, the authors defined the method of integrative review, considering the time period between 2000 and 2011. The databases selected of study were MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System online), LILACS (Latin American Literature in Health Sciences) and Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online). Eighteen articles were selected for study. We observed that the potentialities of primary care services are larger than fragilities. However, the results demonstrated the relevance of manuscripts with elevated impact and higher-level classification of scientific evidence about the role of primary healh care in the coordination of health care networks.
