Abstract:

The article analyzes whether is relationship between Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and the percentage of health units that obtained good performance ratings in the assessment by the national program to improve access and quality of primary care in Brazilian states, and the similarity between these states. Using a descriptive study, the results of the performance assessment of the participating units of the third cycle of the PMAQ (2015-2017) and the relationship with the infant mortality rate (2015-2017). The results demonstrated a negative and moderate correlation (-0.534) between infant mortality rate and the units with good performance rating and statistically significant (p = 0.005). Cluster analysis, it was possible to confirm that Brazilian statesdifferent regions show similarities in the study variables. Therefore, there is a relationship between infant mortality rate and units with a good rating performance. The results also showed that the similarities between the states go beyond the region in which they are located. Therefore, the importance of investing in basic care qualification is evident in terms of an effective impact on the population\'s health.
