Abstract:

As a result of social, economic and demographic issues, living in the city can lead to inade-quate living conditions, social exclusion, inequities and other problems to the population. At the same time, the city constitutes a scenario of social, affective and cultural production. As a result, it is important to reflect upon the right to the city and its relation to the promotion of health of its inhabitants. Urban agendas are developed to address these ambiguities of the city. This article aims to analyze four of these agendas through the lenses of health promotion. Through a qualitative approach, a document review was conducted on urban agendas pro-posed by international organizations and applied to the Brazilian context: Healthy Cities, Sus-tainable Cities, Smart Cities and Educating Cities. Results indicate some degree of effort to promote social participation, lntersectorial action, and the territorial perspective as central to address social exclusion and inequities; however, more in-depth discussions are needed on each of these concepts. The article concludes that urban agendas can offer an important con-tribution to the consolidation of the right to the city, as long as there is greater and critical comprehension of the concepts that sustain such agendas.
