Abstract:

This article presents an analysis of the performance of the specialized healthcare network of SUS, with the delimitation of the medium and high complexity services of the hospital network in the municipalities that make up the Belem Metropolitan Region. The discussion is based on the review of secondary data collected on the DATASUS platform and made available on the Brazilian National Register of Health Establishments (CNES) until January 2022. It was found that the territoriality of high complexity is formed mostly by the private network, however, the service capacity of the SUS network overlapped the supply directed to non-universal care, due to the broad reservation of private services to the SUS agreement, in which philanthropic hospitals showed greater willingness to universal demand. In contrast, the ample presence of the State in the services of high complexity should not be thought of as universal coverage since the access forms to these services present filters of legal-institutional nature or, in other words, what SUS calls open or closed doors.
