The aim of this paper is to reflect on the theoretical construction in the constitution of the sociology of health - still called in some countries as medical sociology. Two main ideas constitute the basis of this reflection: the interdisciplinarity and the degree of articulation presents in the fields of medicine and sociology. A dialogue with some dimensions – macro/micro, structure/action – that constitute the foundation of the understanding the medical/health in its relation to the social/sociological is also established. The main aspects of these dimensions are firstly addressed. Secondly, Straus’ two medical sociologies deadlocks, as well as the dilemmas of the sociology of medicine in the 60’s and 70’s are analyzed and placed as a counterpoint to the theoretical production before 1970. Finally, the sociology of health is placed in the general scenario of sociology, which1970 undergoes a process of fragmentation with reflections in all subfields of the social sciences. This process is accompanied by a rethinking of the theoretical issues in a wide spectrum of possibilities. It’s emphasized the 80‘s - when the theoretical issues in the sociology of health are strengthened and, the issue of interdisciplinary is once again studied.Keywords:
