Abstract:

Between the 1990s and 2000s, several questionnaires were developed to assess health quality, especially in primary health care, seeking to measure the users‘ experience in these services. This study proposes an integrative review of the literature based on articles and publications on the use of the Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCAT) as an instrument for evaluating these services, discussing the results found in Brazil and in other countries of the world, the initial matrix conceived by the team of Professor Barbara Starfield and propose updates for the Brazilian version. We identified 124 studies; however, after reading them, 42 were ed, according to the established inclusion criteria. Of this subtotal, 17 (40.5%) were Brazilian studies. It is suggested the need to update items of each attribute of the instrument, in particular \"access - first contact\", including new forms of medical-patient communication such as: email, mobile application messages, use of software by transmission of video for communication, and even use of telemedicine, among others. PCAT presents simplicity regarding the use, application and calculation of scores, which makes it useful and suitable for use in the local management of services, especially in its reduced version.
