Abstract:

The objective of the study was to analyze the temporal trend in the incidence of cancer in the health macro-regions of the state of Mato Grosso2001 to 2016. An ecological time series study with datathe Mato Grosso Population-Based Cancer Registry. Age-standardized incidence rates were calculated, disaggregated by year, sex, macro-region and type of cancer. For men, the trend was growing for prostate cancer in the state and the Centro Noroeste, Leste, Oeste and Sul macro-regions, and for colorectal cancer in the Norte; and descending for stomach cancer in the state and Centro Noroeste and Norte, for lung cancer in the Leste, and for esophageal cancer in the Centro Noroeste. For women, the trend was increasing for breast cancer in the state2009 to 2016; for lung cancer in the state (2008 to 2016) and in the Centro Norte (2001 to 216) and Sul (2007 to 2016) macro-regions; and decreasing for cervical cancer in the state and for all macro-regions, and for stomach cancer in the state and in the Centro Noroeste. Colorectal cancer showed a stable trend for the state and all macro-regions. Surveillance, prevention and cancer control actions in the state should consider regional and magnitude differences in the occurrence of the disease.
