Abstract:

The aim of this study was to describe and analyze dental pain history and its associated factors, among adolescent studentspublic schools,a city in the Northeast of Brazil. It was conducted an observational, descriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional reasearch by the application of 4 questionnaires with 458 adolescents. By the bivariate analysis, the prevalence of dental pain in life was high among adolescents of lower age (76.9%;p=0.004), who have visited the dentist any time (74.8%;p=0.001) and that related fear (74.9%;p=0.006). The occurrence of dental pain in the last 6 months was low, the adolescents of male sex (77.4%;p=0,001) and of higher age (73.1%;p=0.031) reported not having felt it. When the multivariate analysis, the higher prevalence of dental pain in life, remained among lower age adolescents (76.9%;p=0.003) and who related fear (74.9%;p=0.006). The prevalence of dental pain on the last 6 months remained low at the multivariate analysis, among the male sex adolescents (77.4%;p=0.002) and of higher age (73.1%; p=0.037). It is concluded that the prevalence of dental pain in life was higher than in the last 6 months, having a significant association with the factors: sex, age, visit to the dentist and fear sensation.
