Abstract:

Objective: To analyze the trend of frequency of consumption of beans in the years 2006 to 2009 in the Brazilian capitals. Methodology: This is a historical series using Vigitel database of all Brazilian capitals. Consumption of beans was described by the relative frequency and the trend was assessed using Poisson regression. Results: 65.79% (2009) to 71.85% (2006) of participants reported consuming beans on five or more days per week. In the broadest range of frequency of consumption throughout the study period included the capital Goiania, Belo Horizonte, Palmas, Brasilia and Cuiaba. People with a BMI in the appropriate category/underweight had the highest frequencies of consumption in relation to overweight and obesity. There was trend of reducing or increasing the consumption of beans by years of the research, except for the range of 45-54 years. Conclusion: The consumption of beans among the Brazilian population is satisfactory and its monitoring and encouragement becomes a valuable tool in relation to the benefits of the vegetable.
