Abstract:

We estimated the prevalence and factors associated with use of dental services in a representative sample, probabilistic complex by two-stage cluster of preschoolers with 18-36 months of age. Structured questionnaires were administered to parents/guardians, the preschoolers were assessed by dentists trained and calibrated. In the analysis we considered the corrections for the design effect was estimated magnitudes of associationslogistic regression (OR/IC95%). We evaluated 809 preschool children, 15.5 % had used dental service. Being older (3.27/1.71-6.24), have higher income per capita (2.65/1.50-4.65), having their own house (1.83/104 -3.23), have access to preventive oral health (5.44/3.00-9.86), flossing (2.75/1.50-5.02) determined higher odds of use these service. Not having caries experience (0.22/0.13- 0.38) and not present fundamental lesions in soft tissues (0.10/0.01-0.77) reduced the chance. The prevalence of dental services was low, indicating the need for greater provision of such services and the expansion of preventive and health promotion, the greater chance to use among those with higher socioeconomic inequality suggests.
