Nowadays, with the potent antiretroviral therapy and the increase of the survival of pediatric patients infected by HIV, the search of the promotion of a better life quality must be the main focus of the care of children living with HIV/AIDS. The utilization of an adequate instrument to this group becomes necessary. This study’s objective was to accomplish the validation of the Scale of Children’s Quality of Life in a group of children infected by HIV who were under clinical attendance in services of AIDS from Rio de Janeiro-RJ. This scale is composed by 26 questions and its application was done in 100 children, with age varying between 4 and 12 years, and in their responses. The statistical analysis was fulfilled using canonical correlations, confidence interval and the c2 test. In the results, the obtained cut off point was 49; the internal consistence with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0,73 for the children and of 0,67 for its responses. The answer’s profile demonstrated a high satisfaction to the items such as vacations and birthday. And a smaller satisfaction were internment and to play alone. The conclusion showed that the scale exhibited satisfactory psychometric measurements, becoming a trusty, consistent and valid instrument, recommendable to measure the quality of life of children infected by HIV.Keywords: children, HIV infection, quality of life, self-questionnaire.
