Abstract:

The study analyzes the differences between cases of violence against women reported in police records (PR) in a women defense police station (WDPS), during regular working hours, and those in regular police stations, during after-hours, in a medium-sized countryside city in the state of São Paulo - Brazil. This is a cross-sectional study, based on dataPR registered in a one-year period (2013/2014). PR were differentiated in regular working hours and after-hours (dependent variable), according to the period in which they were registered. Chi-square test was used to identify significant differences between groups. In total, 440 PR were registered, 373 during regular hours and 67 during after-hours. Cases of violence registered during after-hours presented greater threat to women\'s integrity as demonstrated by the higher number of flagrant crimes, requests for protective measures and greater severity of aggressions (eg. bruises, need for hospitalization and referral to forensic medicine facilities); which characterize the greater severity of occurrences when WDPS are closed.
