Abstract:

The aim of the study was to analyze the ways of living and the support network that women living on the streets build for themselves, through an intersectional lens. This is qualitative research with an exploratory bias and ethnographic elements, carried out with women living on the streets in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The data was analyzed in three stages: connection with the study scenario; meetings with women living on the streets through the work of the Street Clinic (CnaR); and processing/analysis of the experiences. The following categories of data analysis emerged: “Intersectionalities and the lives of women on the street”, “Broken networks causing suffering to women living on the streets” and “Support networks that women living on the street build for themselves”. The study showed the effects of racism, patriarchy, class oppression and other oppressions that are interconnected and shape psychic suffering and pointed to the construction of support networks that living on the street promotes. Based on the concept of intersectionality, it was possible to reflect on the need to understand the avenues of oppression that cross women's bodies in order to provide care with a view to social justice.
