Abstract:

This research examined the association between occupational fatigue and work absenteeism in 110 women auxiliaries of nursing of a hospital of high complexity in Chile. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the Check List Individual Strength scale were used. The results showed that the predominant absenteeism range was 11 to 29 days. The highest averages of fatigue occurred in those with seniority over 2 years, have more than 10 patients in charge and annual contract. No significant difference was observed between the fatigue averages, in relation to absenteeism, but there was a significant association between physical fatigue (p = 0.040, OR = 1.054) and seniority in the service (p = 0.001, OR = 1.084) with absenteeism labor. Finally, it is concluded that physical fatigue and seniority in the clinical service represented a significant risk factor to present work absenteeism.
