Abstract:

Objective: To describe and analyze the community health workers’ (CHW) work, considering the development of primary health care practices addressing the harmful drugs consumption. Method: The study was based on the Marxist framework and action research methodology, which led to the realization of 15 emancipatory workshops. The category Labor Process oriented data analyzes. Results: The process revealed the social abandonment of territory, environment in which the work of the ACS takes place, which was essential for the recognition of the causes of drug-related problems. Such revelations allowed criticizing the reiterative and stressful activities they carry, process which contributed to desalienation and formulation of forms of political action. Conclusion: The ACS were encouraged to recognize the object of the labor process in the primary health care, which was identified as a disease (or dependence in the case of drug user), and explicit criticisms were made to this cutting; they discussed the social division of labor and the work itself recognizing themselves as mere instruments of the labor process, wishing to be agents, that is, being co-producers of the transformation of social needs.
