Abstract:
The recovery concept has been described in international papers in the psychiatric field, as a state of psychic, physical and social recuperation in the quotidian functions. Objective: to analyze the term’s conceptions in different research methodologies and the paradigmatic evolution of the recovery concept. Methodology: It was made a systematic bibliographical review in the Pubmed database using the words “recovery + schizophrenia”, the search was limited to the two last years and to complete free papers.19 papers were analyzed. Discussion: the main part of the papers looks for association between specific characteristic and recovery, there are few papers that discuss the concept in a way that could be distinguish from other words as cure or recuperation. Recovery as a state in which people with severe mental illness could feel as creators of their own itinerary tends to be present in the qualitative studies and in bibliographic reviews in which the meaning of recovery is not related to the absence of symptoms but it’s emphasized how participative the life of someone could be despite the disease. Some quantitative studies glimpsed this conceptual difference. Conclusion: in qualitative research we saw an expansion of the recovery concept and in the ways of promoting it.
