Abstract:

Psychiatry and psychoanalysis are distinct knowledges that integrate the mental health field. Despite the scientific interface, historical tensions have always existed between them. Ludwik Fleck concepts of thought collective and thought style served as a theoretical framework for qualitative research, whose objective was to understand the circumstances, motivations and meanings of the presence of psychoanalytic references, within contemporary psychiatry. The research was carried out through semi-structured interviews, applied to 47 professionalsan in-depth psychoanalytic course at IPq-HC/FMUSP. Data analysis followed Bardin\'s Content Analysis Methodology. The significant fragments were identified, coded and organized into 5 thematic categories, using the ATLAS.ti software. This article presents the 4 ways in which the presence of a psychoanalytic collective thought impacts contemporary psychiatry, regarding the consideration of subjectivity: (1) encouragement of expanded, non-reductionist clinical listening; (2) valuing the professional’s subjective experience as a formative factor; (3) understanding the limits of Modern medical rationality; (4) action as a critical question in the field of mental health.
