Abstract:

This study aims to examine the financial amount invested per capita/year in municipalities for the acquisition of medicines of basic component of pharmaceutical assistance, according to population size and geographic region of the country. It performed descriptive analysis of the data acquisition drugs, registered in the National database of pharmaceutical services for the periodJuly 2013 to June 2014 (n = 960). The majority of municipalities (73%) applied a lower than the minimum required by current law, per capita/year and, of these, 47% have up to 20 thousand inhabitants. It was also found that the Northern region is the one with the highest number of municipalities with less use of resources and the municipalities in the Southeast, on average, they applied per capita/year a greater value and bought more items than the municipalities of other regions. About the number of items purchased, there was a strong positive correlation between the amount invested per capita/year and the number of items purchased. Regional and demographic disparities in the application of financial resources bring the reflection of the importance of new discussion of the basic pharmaceutical care financing model and the responsibility of Brazilian Unified National Health System in the efficient management of this resource to provide access to medicines to the population.
