Abstract:

In adolescence, subjective well-being is linked to body image. The research aimed to study the well-being profile among adolescent students satisfied and dissatisfied with their body image. Method - An observational, analytical and cross-sectional school-based study. The sample consisted of 1460 studentsninth year of basic education of the state system of Canoas / RS. The instruments were: sociodemographic questionnaire; Economic Classification Criterion Brazil; Body Shape Questionnaire; Brief Multidimensional Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale; Health and optimism perception and Happiness Scale. Data were analysed with descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis was discriminating. Results - In relation to body image, 1091 (74.7%) were satisfied. What most differentiated the groups were sex (0.680), satisfaction with oneself (0.644), health perception (0.630) and how much the teenager is happy with his health (0.601). Results demonstrated the importance of health in satisfaction with body image. Investment in an approach that links positive body image to be healthy in a broader sense, can contribute to adherence of adolescents to health services, allowing to access to this population in a more effective and less regulatory way.
