Abstract:

This retrospective study investigated factors associated with the time to submit to the first breast cancer treatment among 12,100 cases assisted in health facilities qualified for high complexity in oncology within the scope of the SUS located in the Rio de Janeiro between 2013 and 2019. Multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals. 82.1% of the cases underwent the first treatment in a time >60 days. Among those without a history of previous diagnosis, high schooling and staging III and IV were less likely to submit to the first treatment within >60 days, while treatment at a health facility not located in the capital was more likely. Among those with a history of previous diagnosis, age ≥50 years, non-white race/skin color and stage I, were more likely to submit to the first treatment in >60 days, while high schooling, treatment in a health facility not located in the capital and stage IV exhibited a lower probability. In conclusion, sociodemographic, clinical, and healthcare-related factors are associated with time to first breast cancer treatment.
