Abstract:

This qualitative approach study seek understand meanings of Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) and environmental contamination by seafood collectorsthe county of Santo Amaro, Bahia. Solid and industrial waste (mainly lead) and biological waste are released in the Subaé river and in the mangrove compromising food resources, the life and health of the population. The seafood collectors trying to sell the productsthe mangrove are stigmatized by the populationthis and other counties in the Recôncavo Baiano and because of this they do not tell about the origin of the seafood they are selling in the market. The silence and contamination denial are understandable in order to guarantee the FNS, the inequality social naturalization is in favor of the survival. These are observations of the daily poverty in this population who lives submitted to contamination by heavy metals and sewage.
