0252/2016 - Food and nutrition security and environmental pollution: Taboo and stigma. Segurança alimentar e nutricional e contaminação ambiental: Tabu e estigma.
This qualitative approach study seek understand meanings of Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) and environmental contamination by seafood collectorsthe county of Santo Amaro, Bahia. Solid and industrial waste (mainly lead) and biological waste are released in the Subaé river and in the mangrove compromising food resources, the life and health of the population. The seafood collectors trying to sell the productsthe mangrove are stigmatized by the populationthis and other counties in the Recôncavo Baiano and because of this they do not tell about the origin of the seafood they are selling in the market. The silence and contamination denial are understandable in order to guarantee the FNS, the inequality social naturalization is in favor of the survival. These are observations of the daily poverty in this population who lives submitted to contamination by heavy metals and sewage.

Abstract(resumo):
Este estudo de abordagem qualitativa busca compreender significados de Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (SAN) e contaminação ambiental por marisqueiras do município de Santo Amaro, Bahia. Resíduos sólidos e industriais (principalmente Chumbo), e biológicos são lançados no rio Subaé e no manguezal, comprometendo fontes alimentares, a vida e a saúde da população. As marisqueiras, ao tentarem comercializar os produtos do mangue, são estigmatizadas pela população deste e outros municípios do Recôncavo baiano e, por isso, silenciam sobre a origem dos mariscos que vendem na feira. Compreende-se o silêncio e a negação da contaminação como formas de garantir a SAN, a naturalização da desigualdade social e a favor da sobrevivência. Estas são observações que se inscrevem no cotidiano de pobreza desta população que vive em meio à contaminação por metais pesados e esgotos.
