Abstract:

This study aims to evaluate markers of dietary intake in diabetic patients through a mobile app. A cross-sectional study with 100 adults and elderly patients with type 2 diabetes, in treatment in a hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. For data collection, the mobile app Diabetes Food Control was used. For association adequacy of consumption markers and the investigated variables, we used the chi-square test at 5% significance. We identified a high percentage of individuals with overweight and abdominal adiposity and inadequate glycemic control. The frequency of adequate food consumption was more prevalent in the food groups: fried foods (82%), milk or yogurt (71%), fresh fruits (70%), beans and sugary drinks (68% each), sweet biscuits and treats (57%) and crude salad (56%). The adequacy of intake of unhealthy markers was more frequent in diabetic patients with incomes below four minimum wages and among those without hypertension associated, respectively. The consumption frequency of markers can be considered adequate in most cases, but it is necessary nutritional monitoring, in order to correct changes of nutritional status and glycemic control.
