Abstract:

Vulnerable population groups, such as people with HIV/Aids can have high prevalence of food insecurity. A sectional study evaluated the internal validity of the scale EBIA and measured the prevalence of food insecurity in a sample of 796 PLHA in João Pessoa-Paraíba State. The validation was made through the Analysis of Rasch. It was tested the association of food insecurity with the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics the Chi-square test. The variables associated were included in the Model of Multiple Regression of Poisson. The EBIA presented validity in PLHA with adjustment within the expected limits and severity of the items, respecting the theoretical model and there was identified 66.5% of food insecurity in the sample (30.8% of mild IA, 18.1% moderated, and 17.6% severe IA). Moderate and severe food insecurity were associated to age lower than 43 years old (RP=1.49; IC95%: 1.14 – 1.86), basic education (RP=1.64; IC95%: 1.24 – 2.17), per capita income less than ½ minimum wage (RP=1.83; IC95%: 1.37 – 2.44), lack of occupation (RP=1.59; IC95%: 1.16 – 2.19) and residences composed only by adults, especially with female reference (RP=2.19; IC95%: 1.45 – 3.31). The PLHA studied presented high prevalence of food insecurity; worsening the health conditions that may aggravate health problems experienced by this group.
