Abstract:

The aim of this article is to present a methodology of territorialization in health surveillance constructedthe experiences of the agents of endemics control and environmental health in the Metropolitan Region of Recife (RMR). Ten workshops were held with the participation of three hundred health surveillance agents and supervisors who work in four municipalities of the RMR. Techniques such as application of questionnaires, interviews and directed discussions were used. The results indicate that the incorporation of geographical concepts to consolidate the field actions of health surveillance is incipient. The territory is predominantly adoptedan administrative perspective, and the territorialization is used as a simple division of territory for the development of actions. However, there is an understanding and consensus of the need to understand the geographic knowledge, a fact that was expressed by the rich collective construction of a model of participatory territorialization that should involve a range of social actors. It was concluded that, in practice, surveillance agents have significant abilities to participate in territorial management and the territorialization process, not only collecting data, but mainly intervening for the collective wellbeing.
