Abstract:

Objectives: Objectives: To describe the implementation process of the Prison Primary Care Teams in Rio Grande do Sul, the frequency of tuberculosis notifications in the population deprived of liberty and the chronological relationship between them. Methods: Documentary research nested within a descriptive cross-sectional study of historical series. Were analyzed the decrees of qualification of Prison Primary Care Teams, number and year of notification of tuberculosis casesthe National System of Notifiable Diseases2014 to 2020. Results: The state of Rio Grande do Sul was a pioneer in municipalization and co-financing of prison health, which resulted in the implementation of 45 teams, covering approximately 54.5% of people deprived of their liberty in a closed regime. Between 2014 and 2020, the teams notified 5175 cases of tuberculosis, with a progressive increase in the notification of cases, as well as the implementation of new teams. Conclusions: The strategy of implantation of Prison Primary Care Teams driven by the National Policy of Comprehensive Health Care for Persons Deprived of Liberty in the Prison System proved to be of fundamental importance for increasing the diagnosis, notification and control of tuberculosis in the state of Rio Grande southern.
