Abstract:

The present work aimed at exposing the theory, proposing practice and evaluating difficulties concerning the new food classification, presented in the second edition of Brazilian Dietary Guidelines. A questionnaire with a list of 30 foods divided in four groups was used: natural or minimally processed foods (I), culinary ingredients (C), processed foods (P) and ultra-processed foods (U). Participants classified foods before and after a mini course. The score of correct classifications on a Global Evaluation (C, I, U, P) was significantly higher after (Median = 23) as compares to before the mini course (Median = 13) (Wilcoxon Sign Test: z = -7,33; p = 0,000; Cliff Delta δ = 0,96). The low percentage of correct answersparticipants before the mini course would justify wide dissemination of the theme and other actions such as for students, professionals and the general population.
