Abstract:

Essay based on a conceptual-theoretical reflection on the concept of nutritional rationality and its relation with medicalization of food, aiming to point out the influence that alimentary practices suffera supposed supremacy condition which Science holds, that sugests in its speech the necessity of health. Startingthe definition of nutritional rationality as eating obligation, it is supposed that it takes part in the process of medicalization of food by disqualifying the individualalimentary self caring, instilling the idea of the risk that comesa supposedly inadequate alimentation and fomenting the idea that to eat well is to eat accordingly to scientific principles. The dissemination of scientific studies and research results to the general public reveals the part played by alimentation in promoting a state of “better” health at the expense of the existenciality of food and its aggregator role in intersubjective relations.
