Abstract:

Objective: The objective was to investigate the association between emotional states with adequate fruit and vegetable consumption. Methods: This is a population-based cross-sectional study with a probabilistic sample of 1,100 adults in a medium-sized city in Southern Brazil. Adequate fruit and vegetable consumption was defined as a concomitant intake ≥3 fruits and ≥5 tablespoons of vegetables per day. Similarly, participants reporting no minor psychiatric disorders were 52% more likely to have an adequate fruit and vegetable consumption than those who reported the presence of these disorders (OR=1.52;95%CI:1.10-2.10;p=0.016). That effect increased and remained statistically significant only among women in gender stratification. Conclusions: The results suggest t
